**Dr. Gillespie at Center for Emergency Responders

May 13, 2009 – Members of the Region Eight EMS Council presented Charles B. Gillespie, M.D. with two state resolutions during a meeting at Albany Technical College on May 13, 2009. The meeting took place at the college’s Charles B. Gillespie, M.D. Center for Emergency Responders, which was named for the Albany physician.

The resolutions, one from the Georgia State Senate and the other from the House of Representatives, recognize Gillespie’s three decades of service to Georgia’s Emergency Medical Services.

In the early 1970’s, then Governor Jimmy Carter requested Dr. Gillespie chair the committee that formed Georgia’s Emergency Medical Services.  He also established the Albany Tech E.M.T. training program in 1972, where he taught the first course. His leadership, talent and continuous support allowed Albany Tech to develop one of Georgia’s premier Emergency Medical Technology programs.

Albany Tech’s Paramedic Technology/EMS, Fire Science and Law Enforcement programs are housed in the Center for Emergency Responders.
