Albany Technical College Foundation to “Roast” Dr. Charles B. Gillespie

April 22, 2010 - On Friday evening, April 23, 2010, at 7 p.m., the Albany Technical College Foundation will be holding their annual Roast in the Kirkland Conference Center on the college campus. This year, the College will be “roasting” Dr. Charles B. Gillespie. A silent auction will also be held in the Conference Center foyer beginning at 6 p.m.

A dear friend and supporter of Albany Technical College, Dr. Gillespie taught the first EMT course in southwest Georgia at Albany Tech in 1972. When the First Responders building was opened in November of 2008, it was named for Gillespie – The Charles B. Gillespie, M.D. Center for Emergency Responders. The building is the training ground for not only the EMT program, but the Fire Science and Law Enforcement Technology programs.

Roasters for the evening include: Albany Technical College President, Dr. Anthony Parker; Charles Proctor, EMT-PI, First Responders Director at Albany Technical College; Duncan Marsh, M.D., former practice partner; Elaine Ellington, EMP-P, early EMT student at Albany Technical College; Dr. John Culbreath, Phoebe Putney Hospital Board Member; and George Chastain, M.D. A special presentation will also be given by Mr. Kent Morrison, Executive Director of the Marine Corps Logistics Base. Doug Lorber will serve as the evening emcee.

The Albany Tech Foundation, Inc. hosts two major fundraisers each year – a golf tournament in the fall and the Roast in the spring. The funds raised through these events go towards foundation and other college programs and activities.
