Albany Technical College Holds Disability Mini-Grant Transition Extreme Workshop on Wednesday

January 17, 2012 - Albany Technical College will hold a Disability Mini-Grant Transition Extreme Workshop Wednesday, January 18, 2012, beginning at 9:15 a.m. The day will end at 1 p.m. with words from motivational speaker, Mr. Joseph B. Washington.

Last year, the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism, a division of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), awarded the Disability Inclusion & Involvement Grant to Albany Technical College in the amount of $4,550. As part of the grant, Albany Tech is hosting this one-day workshop for high school and post-secondary students with disabilities.

The workshop will focus on the following areas: opportunities after high school, self-advocacy and leadership, vocational rehabilitation services, life choices, applying to post-secondary institutions, financial aid, disability laws and assistive technology options. This will also be a partnership effort with Albany Police AmeriCorps and various other disability service providers. The workshop is open to students, teachers and other professionals who are at the forefront of success for individuals with disabilities.

In addition to motivational speaker, Mr. Joseph B. Washington, guests will also have the opportunity to hear from Terry Rucks, Albany Tech graduate.
