Earning Your High School Equivalency (GED® Diploma)

The General Education Development (GED® Test) is offered as an alternative to a high school diploma.  The GED® Test is made up of four batteries, including reasoning through language arts, social studies, science, and mathematical reasoning.  The complete battery of tests costs $160 and each test is $40, if taken separately. There is a one month waiting period for retesting.

Current, valid, government-issued photo indentification will be required for orientation and to register and take the GED® test.

Acceptable forms of identification include a driver’s license from any state, a learner’s permit, a state ID, a passport or military ID.

Sixteen and seventeen year olds must fill out the Underage Youth application and bring a parent for the first thirty minutes of orientation. This application requires an official withdrawal from the last school attended or the Affidavit for Home School Students (The date of withdrawal must be less than one year old.) If the withdrawal date is more than a year, a letter from the last school attended stating that the individual is still not enrolled is required. By state regulations, 16 and 17 year olds must attend a minimum of 40 hours of class, take and pass the new official practice test with a minimal score of 158 on each content area and have an Adult Education instructor and an authorized Adult Education program recommendation for state approval in order to take the GED® Test.

In order to participate in the Adult Education program, individuals are required to attend orientation. Day and evening orientation sessions are available. During orientation, individuals will be given assessment tests to determine level of knowledge in the subjects needed to pass the GED® Test in order to be placed into appropriate classes. Orientation is required in order to attend any GED® Test preparation class or lab. You may call the office at 229.430.1620 or visit our website for orientation dates and times

There is no cost for orientation and classes.

All test-takers must register and schedule their GED® Test at www.ged.com or by calling the Pearson VUE call center at 1-877-EXAM-GED (392-6433). A credit or debit card is required when scheduling tests. The GED® Test is administered in the Manufacturing Technology BUilding in room 111 across the street from the main campus of Albany Technical College.

After passing the GED® Test with a minimal score of 150 on each subject you will receive your official GED® Diploma, transcript and a $500 Hope Voucher in the mail. If you need additional copies of these documents, please contact the Technical College System of Georgia Adult Education (TCSG) at 404.679.1600, or Century Place, Suite 400 Atlanta, Georgia 30345. Official documents are maintained at TCSG; and therefore, are not available at Albany Technical College.

Official documents and/or transcripts can be obtained via a GED® Transcript/Diploma Request Form which can be obtained on the TCSG website at www.tcsg.edu or you may pick one up at the Adult Education Office at Albany Technical College.  You may submit the form to TCSG in person or by mail.
