Earning Your High School Equivalency Diploma (GED)

The General Education Development Test (GED®) is offered as an alternative to a high school diploma.  The GED® test is made up of five batteries, including language arts writing, language arts reading, social studies, science, and mathematics.  The complete battery of tests costs $160 and each test is $32, if taken separately.

Current, valid, government-issued photo I.D. will be required for registration into orientation and to take the GED® test.

Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license from any state, a learner’s permit, a Georgia ID, a passport or military ID.

Sixteen and seventeen year olds must present their official withdrawal form in order to register for orientation. (The date of withdrawal must be less than one year old.)  If the withdrawal date is more than a year, a letter from the last school attended stating that the individual is still not enrolled is required.  By state regulations, 16 and 17 year olds must have a GED® teacher recommendation for state approval in order to take the GED® test.  This recommendation can only be obtained from a GED® teacher at an authorized Adult Education Program.

In order to participate in the GED® Preparation Program, individuals are required to attend the GED® Orientation.  Day and evening orientation sessions are available.  During orientation, individuals will be given assessment tests to determine level of knowledge in a number of subjects in order to be placed into appropriate classes.  Orientation is required in order to attend any GED® preparation class or lab.  You may call the office at 229-430-1620 or visit our website for orientation dates and times.

There is no cost for orientation and classes.

After passing the GED®, you will receive your official GED® diploma and transcript in the mail.  If you need additional copies of these documents, please contact the Technical College System of Georgia Adult Education (TCSG) at 404-679-1600, or Century Place, Suite 400 Atlanta, Georgia 30345.  Official documents are maintained at TCSG; and therefore, are not available at Albany Technical College.

Official documents and/or transcripts can be obtained via a GED® Transcript/Diploma Request Form which can be obtained on the TCSG website at www.tcsg.edu or you may pick one up at the Adult Education Office at Albany Technical College.  You may submit the form to TCSG in person or by mail.

For additional information, please call 229-430-1620.
