Benjamin Ford to speak during local TEAAMS Session at Albany Technical College
Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College is proud to announce the upcoming TEAAMS Monthly Empowerment Session on January 18, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Logistics Education Center. Benjamin Ford, Deputy Director of Field Operations for the Georgia Department of Corrections, will speak at the event. This session is part of the college's Teaching, Empowering African American Males to Succeed (TEAAMS) initiative. It is designed to provide African American males with fundamental skills to help them succeed and persist through internal and external challenges.
Each month, the TEAAMS project hosts a Monthly Empowerment Session; ATC Faculty and Community Leaders are invited to speak to the students. "The TEAAMS Program appreciates Mr. Ford taking time from his busy schedule to join us. " remarked Quanta Bell, the TEAAMS Project Director.
About the Speaker
Benjamin Ford is the Deputy Director of Field Operations for the Georgia Department of Corrections. He currently manages 87 Correctional Facilities and Programs throughout the State of Georgia.
Mr. Ford began his career as a Correctional Officer at Lee State Prison in 1985. After that, he advanced through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Chief of Security, Superintendent, Warden, Regional Director, and his current position of Deputy Director. His vast experience and influence were obtained at multiple Institutions throughout the State of Georgia. Listed below are three of his many accomplishments:
- Startup of Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Treatment Center in Bainbridge, Georgia
- Started Charter School at Burruss Correctional Training Facility, which was the first facility for Male Offenders to earn their high School Diploma
- Served three years as the Warden at the largest Prison in Georgia - Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison located in Jackson, Georgia
Mr. Ford proudly served in the United States Army for 32 years and retired as a Sergeant Major. He had tours in Germany, Operation Desert Storm/Shield, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Mr. Ford received countless awards, citations, and military honors while serving our Country.
Mr. Ford holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's in management and leadership. He is also a United States Army Sergeant Major Academy graduate and completed Emergency Management Training and other training certifications. His memberships and affiliations include Georgia's Wardens Association and the Southern States Correctional Association.
Mr. Ford has been married to Christine for over twenty-eight years, and they have five children: Lashonte', Shabreka, Benjamin B. Jr, Darrell, and Christianna.
