Driving Courses Offered

Georgia Teens

First-time teen drivers looking to apply for your Georgia Driver's License, there are 4 requirements that must be met before scheduling for a road test with the DMV. First, having an Instructional license (CP) for 1year and 1 day; Second, a Joshua’s Law certificate; Third, a Georgia DDS certificate of attendance form and finally, a Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program card (ADAP) from your middle or high school or EDAP (online). Teens who have not completed Joshua’s Law must be 18 years old to apply for a Class D driver's license.

Adult Beginner

Adult beginner who has never been behind the wheel or is looking to increase their driving knowledge before taking the road test. We offer 2-hour lessons that cover all aspects of driving. We can customize a lesson just for you. For peace of mind, all the driving lessons take place in our DriveSafe cars equipped with safety features. Adults must obtain a valid Georgia learner’s permit.


Classroom and Driving Course

Joshua’s Law (Teens only)

36-Hours (In Classroom & Behind Wheel)
Cost: $425 per student

Course Information

Driving is an essential aspect of our lives but carries various risks The state of Georgia now mandates Joshua’s Law for teens between the age of 15-17 before scheduling a road test for the C-license. Albany Technical College provides 30-hours of classroom instruction and 6-hours of in-person driving, which complies with Georgia’s Joshua Law.

Teens 15-17 may apply for the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission Grant Scholarship(GDEC). A valid Georgia learner’s permit (CP) is required to apply for the Scholarship.

To register for the Joshua’s Law Driver’s Education Course, follow the steps below:

  1. Apply for GDEC Driver’s Education Grant Scholarship.
    • Student must be 15-17 years old
    • Applicants are notified of awards/denials on the 1st of each month via email.
    • Redeem scholarship by forwarding the approval email and a copy of the teen's instructional permit to EDP@albanytech.edu
      Note: Redemption codes must be redeemed within 30 days of the award date and a copy of your permit is necessary to redeem your voucher!
  2. Register for a course – PDF Application Form
  3. Email completed forms to EDP@albanytech.edu

Paying for course:

  1. If you are NOT applying for a scholarship through the Georgia Driver’s Education Commission, contact the office to pay the $425 course fee. Call Cindy Hughes at 229.430.0557 or Tracy Wallace at 229.430.3867.
  2. If you are approved for the GDEC Scholarship, forward the approval email to: EDP@albanytech.edu
  3. If you were not awarded a GDEC scholarship, contact the office so we can possibly provide other options.


Lecture Only Course

30-Hours (Online)
Cost: $150 per student

Course Information

Costech is an Online Driver’s Education Course that is equivalent to taking a classroom Driver’s Education course, Joshua’s Law, through a traditional “brick and mortar” driving school. You access your online course at any time, from anywhere, as long as you have Internet access. GDEC scholarship will not pay for an online course.

Adult Driving Course

6-Hours (Behind the wheel)
Weekdays only
Cost: $300 or $325 w/pick-up and drop-off

Course Information

Adult students drive with our certified instructor for three 2-hour driving sessions in a variety of traffic situations and locales. This course will boost confidence and proficiency behind the wheel. We do our best to schedule driving appointments on days/times that are convenient for you. Must have a valid Georgia learner’s permit.

Refresher/Additional Driving Course

2-Hours minimum required (Teens and Adults)
Cost: $50 per hour

Course Information

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to driving. Some students, such as new drivers, may need more time with a professional driving instructor, so we offer this course that gives multiple options to fit your needs. We focus on the driving skills you wish to improve, such as parallel parking or freeway driving. Must have a valid Georgia learner’s permit.

Weekend Driving Course

Limited Availability (Teens and Adults)
Cost: $75 per hour (minimum 2-Hours) or $385.00 for 6 hours w/pick-up and drop-off

Course Information

If your schedule is limited, this course is for you. Individuals who wish to improve their skills but only have time on the weekend. All the driving lessons take place in our DriveSafe cars equipped with safety features. This course will boost both competency and confidence behind the wheel. Those under 18 years of age must provide a copy of the Joshua Law Certificate before they can schedule the weekend course. Must have a valid learner’s permit.
