TEAAMS Monthly Empowerment Session & Recognition Ceremony with Special Guest Speaker Marvin Laster

ALBANY, GA – Albany Technical College is proud to announce the upcoming TEAAMS Monthly Empowerment Session & Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, April 20, from 10:00 am-11:00 am at the Logistics Education Auditorium. Marvin Laster will be speaking at the event. This session is part of the college's initiative, Teaching, Empowering African Americans to Succeed (TEAAMS), designed to provide African American Males with fundamental skills to help them succeed and persist through internal and external challenges.

"It is an absolute pleasure to have Mr. Laster join us during this ceremony," said Quanta Bell, TEAAMS Project Director. "Each month, the TEAAMS project hosts a Monthly Empowerment Session; ATC Faculty and Community Leaders are invited to speak to the students."

Marvin B. Laster is a 2000 honor graduate of Albany State University. In 2007, the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation named him the inaugural winner of its Inclusion Champion award for his efforts to promote full inclusion of youth with disabilities in society. In 2012 he became an honor graduate of Mercer University's Stetson School of Business and Economics.

Throughout his career, Mr. Laster has been recognized locally and nationally for his commitment to helping others – especially youth. In 2009 and 2014, he received the National Service to Youth Award presented by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Before returning to Albany in 2015, Mr. Laster held several leadership positions at Boys & Girls Clubs of America's national headquarters in Atlanta, including Director of Character and Citizenship programs and Club Capacity & Outreach for the Southeast Region and Director of Diversity Services.

Prior to his appointment in 2016 as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, Mr. Laster served one year as the organization's assistant CEO. Most recently, Mr. Lasterwas inducted into Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany's Alumni Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class and named a member of ASU's inaugural 40 under 40 class as well as being selected to participate in the coveted 2019 Leadership Georgia program.

Mr. Laster is also deeply committed to his faith, family, and fraternity. He is a member of Bible Way Baptist Church in Albany, GA, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and the proud father of a son currently serving in the United States Army and stationed at Ft. Stewart near Savannah.
