Albany Technical College Announces Spring 2025 Graduation Commencement Details
Albany, Georgia - Albany Technical College will hold its Spring 2025 Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Albany Civic Center, 100 W Oglethorpe Blvd, Albany, GA. The graduation ceremony will recognize candidates receiving Technical Certificates of Credit, Diplomas, associate degrees, and High School Equivalencies.
This year marks the first annual graduation since transitioning from a biannual model to a single commencement each spring. Two ceremonies will be held:
- 11:00 AM Ceremony: Dual Enrollment, Dual Achievement Program (DAP), Career Plus High School Equivalency (HSE), and Adult Education graduates.
- 2:00 PM Ceremony: Graduates from Business, Construction, Early Childhood, Engineering, Electronics, Healthcare Technology, Information Technology, Logistics, Manufacturing, Operations, Professional Services, Public Safety, and Transportation programs.

Keynote Speaker: Colonel Mathew McKinney
Colonel Mathew McKinney was commissioned via the Marine Corps’ Platoon Leaders Combined Course in August 1999 and graduated from The Basic School and Landing Force Logistics Officers Course in 2000.
His operational assignments include 1st Battalion, 7th Marines; 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company; 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion; United States Special Operations Command; Special Operations Command (Forward) Pakistan; and the 24th & 26th Marine Expeditionary units.
He has commanded from the platoon to the regiment level, including Combat Logistics Battalion 26 (26th MEU) and Combat Logistics Regiment 2, before assuming installation command.
His staff assignments include the School of Infantry East; United States Special Operations Command (US SOCOM); Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.; Combat Logistics Regiment 2; and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. Colonel McKinney has deployed multiple times throughout the Indo-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, including combat deployments in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. He completed at-sea deployments aboard U.S. Navy amphibious ships USS Iwo Jima, USS New York, and served as the Commander of Troops aboard the USS Oak Hill, deployed to AFRICOM, EUCOM, and CENTCOM AOs.
Colonel Mathew McKinney is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School (non-resident, 2002), U.S. Army Airborne School (2006), Army Combined Logistics Captains Career Course (2008), Marine Corps Command & Staff College (non-resident, 2012), University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School LOGTECH Course (2013), Air Command & Staff College (2014), and Air War College (2020).
Before assuming his current command, he served as the Chief Operations Officer and Contracting Officer Representative at the Capability Prototypes Office under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering in May 2021. He assumed command of Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany on June 29, 2023.
Colonel Mathew McKinney is a proud graduate with honors from West Virginia University (1996). He and his wife, Kelsey, have three children and reside on base in Albany.

The event will be livestreamed on Albany Technical College’s official YouTube Channel, making it accessible to friends and family unable to attend in person. Additionally, WALB News 10 will stream the ceremony live on both its website and Facebook page to help honor graduates from across Southwest Georgia.
