Job Description & Responsibilities:
A Field Training Officer is responsible for the training and evaluation of newly hired and recently graduated Correctional Officers, at the individual facilities within the Georgia Department of Corrections. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Coaching and mentoring newly hired and recently graduated Correctional Officers. 2. Conduct on-the-job training for newly hired and recently graduated Correctional Officers. 3. Responsible for reporting potential problems, i.e., unprofessional behavior, lack of interest or progress in the program. 4. Responsible for completing all documentation associated with the program. 5. Responsible for providing remedial/reinforcement training when necessary. 6. May have to work a post when required.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T. Certification AND eighteen months of experience as a Correctional Officer or position equivalent. NOTES: 1. POST Rule: 464-13.03, must have three years of Law Enforcement experience, with at least two years of service from the Georgia Department of Corrections. (A Correctional Officer can still attend the program, but must have three years of experience, before POST will certify them). 2. Must be in good standing with POST (no disciplinary actions or POST investigations with in the last two years). 3. Received a "Successful Performer" or higher on current Performance Evaluation. Preferred Qualification: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess one or more of the following: Three years of experience as a Correctional Officer 2 (PSP061), with the Georgia Department of Corrections. One year of college, from an accredited college or university.
